A Time to Dance: The Life & Work of Norma Canner

This unique, inspiring film provides viewers the opportunity to discover the life and work of Norma Canner, a dance teacher, therapist and pioneer in the field of dance movement therapy, and former instructor at Lesley Expressive Therapy Graduate Schools in Cambridge, MA, and Israel. The film received the Gradiva Award in Film from the American Association of Psychoanalysis in 2001. It shows the development of her work with blind, deaf, physically impaired, autistic and developmentally delayed children, and with adults dealing with emotional pain. The film also depicts Canner’s teaching and mentoring, as well as her commitment to the humanity and innate creativity of each person with whom she worked. The film’s extensive footage illustrates her methods using music, art, drama, movement and dance in group and individual settings. It would be useful for those wanting to learn more about the use of movement, art, music, dance and drama in work with children and adults.
