This collection of three short films explores the overlapping concepts of Self-Taught, Visionary, and Outsider Art. Prominent and lesser-known artists in these categories are profiled along with commentary by experts in the field. The sociocultural aspects of these artists’ lives is presented along with personal histories that shaped the emergence of their careers of production. While not explicitly addressed in the films, clinically relevant themes such as social and economic marginalization and mental health status are evident in the narrative.
Commentary by Randy Vick, HLM, ATR-BC, provides thought provoking questions about what we think when we see this art, and how genius can take many forms.
